The instructors were highly qualified specialists in their fields and worked on a voluntary basis. The programmers had the challenging task to acquire basic skills in the field of programming, namely "++" and "DEF C++". After a weak long theoretical preparation, assignments and problem solving they went on to compose their own small programmes working in four teams. Their hard work and joint efforts resulted in the successful demonstration of their programmes to the public.

The participants in the "Mathematical Linguistics" classroom studied and solved linguistic problems – translation of words, names of numbers, encoding, production of visiting cards, translation of sentences, elaboration of their own problems. To demonstrate their knowledge and skills they made an effective presentation. They showed the spelling of the word "linguistics" in 12 languages among which Swahili, Sanskrit, Egyptian, Hindi, Tahitian and other exotic languages.

The children in the "Iconography" class were introduced to the canon and basic rules of icon painting as well as to the history of the saints most frequently portrayed. After the theoretical grounding the iconographers moved on to practical work – they painted icons, shaped and lacquered the panels. On the closing day they arranged a display of their work in the foyer of the municipal Plenary Hall.

During the first Academy week the young journalists were initiated into the subtleties of writing reportages, interviewing and preparing public opinion polls. The materials the children had made were presented in a radio broadcast of their own, which was emitted in the regional and national transmissions of the Darik radio station. The second week was devoted to the art of writing articles, investigation and reports of current news. Each member of the team adopted a role to their liking thus choosing editors-in-chief, assistant editors, reporters for sports, culture, economy, etc. At the formal closing of the Academy the journalists presented their draft for a real newspaper they will work on during the summer and come out of print on September 15. The interviews and reportages they had made were presented to the audience.

The psychology fans were instructed in methods of autopsychotraining – self-analysis, self-control, self-perfection. In the "Entertaining Psychology" classroom they acquired skills to ask constructive questions, to make interviews and analyse them, to stimulate their internal intellectual and creative resources, to communicate adequately. The knowledge they had mastered was demonstrated in the final concert of the Academy with a cautionary tale about problems in the relationship of children and parents today. They also made an analysis of the issues for the audience.

The participants in the "Folklore Dances" class-room were first introduced to the major folklore regions with their characteristic dances and national costumes. Afterwards they began learning the parts of a dance, the choreography of which was specially devised for them by Mr. Pirgozliev. Dressed in beautiful national costumes the young dancers closed the Academy at the festive concert in the municipal Plenary Hall under the accompaniment of a bagpipe and drum.

The "Photography and Video Filming" class room was the most popular among the teenagers and attended by 23 boys and girls. Having acquired knowledge about the basic rules in photography, they did a professional lecture course under the guidance of Mr. Krasimir Iskurov, after which they had to demonstrate their personal skills and creative ideas with their own photographs. The participants were assigned topics such as "Rousse in four photographs", "Nature", "Horses" /the photos were taken in the horse-riding bases "Silvena sport" and "Kabiuk" – Shumen/. The photographers also recorded the excursion on July 17. Selected and arranged on picture mounts the photographs were displayed in the foyer of the municipal Plenary Hall and later in an exhibition together with the icons of the other participants in the "Silvena Art" gallery for the period July 29 – August 12, 2009. The second week was planned for learning video filming under the guidance of the professional cameraman from the Regional Television Centre – Rousse Emil Dimitrov. The participants made their own short films as video reportages of the work of all "classrooms". These were shown at the closing concert as an original "visiting card" for each classroom.

For the second successive year museum experts from the Regional Historical Museum of Rousse were instructors of the participants in the Professional Studio "Cultural and Historical Heritage". The students aged 13 – 15 benefited from the expertise of the museum curators and had the opportunity to get an insight of the background work of discovering and preserving valuable exhibits, of the process of creating the "cultural product" to be viewed by the museum visitors. In the Museum of Urban Lifestyle the participants learned about urban cultural patterns and the "oral history" method of research. Thus they learned about the lifestyle of their forebears, they could try on their accessories – gloves, hats, umbrellas and could project themselves into the past of Rousse. In the "Nature" department the young people became acquainted with the biodiversity of the Rousse region and watched a documentary while in the department "History of Bulgaria XV – XIX century" they could hold the weapons known only from history books in their hands.

On July 17 "Bistra and Galina" Hotel-Foundation organised an excursion for all participants and instructors of the "Children's Summer Academy 2009". The young academicians visited the stud farm "Kabiuk" and toured the Equestrian Museum. They also watched the demonstrations of professional jockeys, rode horses and ran attraction carts. The trip continued to the village of Madara and a visit to the National Historical and Archeological Reserve of Madara. There the participants viewed the expositions in the Regional Historical Museum and visited the Big Cave, the Rock Chapel and the Madara Equestrian – a site in the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage. The day continued with lunch in an open-air restaurant and everybody had great fun. The journey proceeded with a visit to the "Veliki Preslav" Archeological Museum where the children listened to a lecture and watched a film about the history of the region and the museum. They also visited the Treasury in which artefacts from the Preslav Gold Treasure and findings from the Palace such as women's gold jewellery and a collection of lead stamps are preserved in controlled humidity of the air. The "Children's Summer Academy 2009" of the "Bistra and Galina" Hotel-Foundation closed formally with a session in the municipal Plenary Hall attended by all participants, parents, friends, donors and journalists. The children from each "classroom" showed what they had learned, visualised the newly acquired skills with presentations and games with the audience. The academicians were applauded by the spectators for their talents and hard work. In the final part all children and their instructors were presented with certificates. The most coveted moment was the cutting of the two big cakes relished by participants and guests alike.

By tradition with the Children's Summer Academy the Foundation displayed the children's creative work in a bazaar exhibition in the "Silvena Art" gallery for the citizens of Rousse to view the achievements of the participants in the "applied arts classrooms" "Iconography" and "Photography and Video Filming". The owner of the gallery Mr. Krasimir Iskurov awarded prizes for the best photographs presenting horses, the architecture of Rousse and the summer emotions of the children. The proceeds from the bazaar will go towards the funding of the next "Children's Summer Academy.

The young journalists from the "Journalism" classroom of the Children's Summer Academy 2009 of the "Bistra and Galina" Foundation presented their first newspaper "Hello, Sun". The eight-page edition was prepared with the help of Assoc. Prof. Sonya Alexieva, Ph.D, and the instructors of the classroom. The children included articles on topics they are interested in. There are materials on the cultural heritage of Rousse, the Children's Summer Academy of the "Bistra and Galina" Foundation and an original fairy tale on ecology. The young journalists mounted an Internet webpage of the newspaper where they continue to develop their journalistic skills.
