For the celebration of the Day of Earth Bistra and Galina Foundation together with the team of Darik Radio planted 150 Buxaceae bushes in the garden of the Military Club in Ruse under the slogan “Plant a tree, turn green“ as a part of Darik Radio’s campaign for improving environment. A Children’s Playground, which brought joy to the little ones in Vazrajdane District, was biult by „Bistra & Galina“ Foundation in partnership with Ruse Municipality. The swings and climing castles, produced by the EU certified “Astometal” company, were placed in the area between two apartment buildings an turned it into a favorite spot for relaxation for children and their parents. The Playground was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor Orlin Lazarov with the help of a Central Day Care Center’s Children Choir who was awarded for its talent with balloons and sweet treats. Summer is highly anticipated by students of course because of the long summer break – the end of school work, the beginning of games, relaxation and adventures. Unfortunately not for all. In 2008 „Bistra & Galina“ Foundation made it possible for disadvantaged children to feel the sea breeze, enjoy the sea and then remember it for a long time. During the period 21-28 August 25 children rested in Albena Tourist Complex in children’s camp “Brigantina”. These were seven days of quiet welcoming sea, endless fun at the water slide and the whirlpool, interesting evenings, games, pleasant walks in Albena, all inclusive food board. A total of 27 children were the lucky ones to spend their vacation there, for 16 of them all that was absolutely free and for the rest were covered half of the expenses.

The young campers were guests of the festival for Russian Movies for children “Zolotoi Artek”. At the Forum they attended the Grand opening of the Festival and had interesting encounters with the special guests – the actors Tatyana Lolova and Rangel Valtchanov. They received many questions, narrated funny and interesting stories and gave autographs and pictures to everyone. Besides bathing and swimming in the sea the children also had other interesting activities – volleyball, basketball, soccer, karate, water polo. In “Creation” Club activities the children were making souvenirs from seashells, straws, paper and carved wood. The last camp night was very exciting and a lot of fun, there were nominations for best swimmer, most rides on the water slide, best gentleman, longest stay in the sea, best new friends.

There was a little sadness in all that because the new friendships were numerous and no one was wishing for the interesting days to be over. We sincerely thank our friends from the Health-Tourist Center “Neda”, the city of Varna for the cooperation.

For two of the children from Children’s Summer Academy 2008, „Bistra & Galina“ Foundation covered the annual fee at the Informatics School at the Centre of Children’s Technical and Scientific Creativity. Children Summer Academy 2008 “We send these balloons into the sky, because there’s nothing more important than a child’s fantasy. It is the piece of sky within everyone of us. It is the engine of progress. It blooms the flower of creation. All that we learned at Children Summer Academy „Bistra & Galina“ for two weeks which went by like a blink of an eye. Thank you for the most important lesson in our lives! See you later Academy! See you later Friends!” With this manifest the summer academies were closed for the past 4 years, but the words coming from within the children’s hearts do not sound like the end of something beautiful, but like a new beginning. For eight consecutive year „Bistra & Galina“ Hotel-Foundation organized Children Summer Academy and it was officially opened on 7th of July in the hotel’s garden. One hundred and three children and youngsters were involved in the project. They all had shown excellent results at school and/or had shown their talent in different fields. The Academy had 9 classes, and for each one of them along with the children, tutors and specialists were working for free. The classes were 4 hours every day with a lunch break. „Bistra & Galina“ Foundation provided lunch for all children and materials needed during the classes. Besides the traditional “Basic Programming”, “Icon Painting”, “Entertaining Psychology” and “Folklore Dances” new attractive classes were offered to the little students. “Little Samurai” acquired new fighting techniques in karate, were learning self-defense and tolerance. They showed high spirit and attractive techniques during the final concert and proved to their tutor Mitko Rujinov that are capable of obtaining even black belts in karate. “Pantomime” class was a logical continuation of the traditional “U-Shu” class. The little mimes were learning different expressive techniques and at the end they created a real spectacle from funny sketches. “Radio and TV Journalism” – a class developing genres. Those who had been trained in radio journalism the previous years improved their knowledge and abilities with TV journalism. Along with the numerous radio interviews which reflected the problems and the pulse of our city, the students entered a TV studio, had to make TV reports with professional camera and felt the thrill of standing in front of the camera themselves. “Tourist animation” class or how to organize a holiday and funny vacation – that was the class, which followed the activities of all the other classes in details in order to create a scenario for the final concert of Children Summer Academy 2008. During the first class the animators received practical guidance in how to organize an event from Prof. Sonya Alexieva, and then energetically and with a lot of patience were rehearsing sketches with the guidance of Mrs. Antonya Kiranova in order to show the best of all classes and receive many admirations. And they did it perfectly.

During Children Summer Academy was organized the first professional class in “Culture-Historic Heritage and Archeology” for youngsters. The team of Ruse Historic Museum managed by Nikolay Nenov was extremely helpful to present the historic and ethnographic heritage of the region to the young archeologists and to turn them into young researchers of the treasures in the city. With a great interåst they were digging into the remains of Sexaginta Prista excited to find clay artefacts. In the “House of Kaliopa” they got to know more about the traditions in our aristocratic city, had a glance of the clothes their great-grand parents had worn, and dresses up with old time fashion hats, were giggling at every look in the antique mirrors. As a result a multimedia presentation showed their experience at the final concert. The children went through a course in reproductive health, taught by Valentina Tiholova, a Bulgarian language teacher at Secondary School “Vazrajdane”.

On the 14th of July a “green school” was organized as a part of the Academy activities in the town of Tryavna. The children visited the Museum of the Tryavna Icon Painting School, the home of Petko and Pencho Slaveikov. All of them tasted the delicacies of the Tryavna cuisine in the quiet garden of the Kalintcheva House. Later the host of the National Wood Carving Museum told them the story about the rivalry of a master and his student in the contest of most beautiful sun, which was supposed to decorate the ceiling of the Daskalova House.

The final of the summer school was a gala concert organized and performed by the participants themselves. Festive and at the same time filled with a little sadness was the sending of „Bistra & Galina“ Foundation’s Flag. Traditionally a huge cake was cut by the youngest tutor in the Academy - Kalina Kandilarova, a grantee of the Foundation and an assistent in the “basic Programming” class. See you next Summer!
